As women,  it is important to stay fit and in good health, no matter what our age. This Wednesday,  September 28,  is National Women’s Health and Fitness Day. It’s the nation’s largest annual health promotion event for women of all ages. The campaign’s main focus is to get women to participate in more physical activities and make us more aware of our health.  It is a great day to engage in fitness activities and even learn a little bit more about taking better care of ourselves.

Today’s women are now living in what I call the Superwoman era, meaning that we tackle so many responsibilities, we sometimes forget about our own well being. Having so much to do with so little time can stress us out and put us at a higher risk for depression, anxiety, heart disease and even infertility. Try to find the best stress busting method that works for you, so you can continue maintain good health and save the day. Here's five tips to help you live a better and healthier life.

    Never Skip Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so PLEASE do not skip it!   Eating first thing in the morning helps us stay awake and energized during the day. It may even take away those morning blues we tend to get the first few hours because food keeps us happy. Vice president of nutrition and research for Athletes’ Performance and Core Performance, Amanda Carlson-Phillips says that the body should get a combination of 10-15 grams of protein and 20 to 30 grams of carbs within 30 minutes of your work out. This way your body will have a lot to burn and promote muscle recovery, amp up your energy and build your most desired physique.

    Create Small Weight Goals

As women we tend to stress ourselves out with reaching our ultimate goal weight. However we might be setting the bar a little too high.  It may be better to set smaller goals, while we’re on our way to our bigger goal.  Resetting your goals to about five to 10 pounds each month my actually lead you closer to your highest goal weight.

Put Some Pep In Your Step

If you enjoy those sweet chili peppers that are cooked in some of our favorite foods like stir fries, burritos, and soups, that might actually be a good thing. These peppers can help you burn more fat during an outdoor run during colder weather. Sweet peppers contain a chemical called capsinoid and are similar to the capsaicin found in hot peppers. Studies shown in the Journal of Clinical Investigation say that combining capsinoids with temperatures starting at 63 degrees or cooler will increase the amount and activity of brown fast cells, which burn energy and boost your metabolism.  Great timing for the fall season!

    Find A Fitness Friend

Girl power is strong, especially when it comes to fitness. If you and your friend are trying to stay fit, why not become your fitness buddies? This way you can encourage each other to stay on track and achieve your fitness goals. According to Shape.com, a British survey of 1,000 women found that those who exercise with a partner tend to train six minutes longer and burn an extra 41 calories per session compared to those exercise alone. So grab your best bud and work on the dream body together!

    Be True To You

We know living a healthy lifestyle can come with some major changes. However you don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with. Stay true to yourself. If you are an early bird keep your workouts scheduled in the a.m., but if you’re a night owl don’t force yourself into early morning workouts. Keep your workouts set in the afternoons or evenings. Forcing yourself to a workout schedule you are not used to will only keep you stressed.
