World War II veteran Vito Perillo pulled one of the biggest election upsets that Tinton Falls has ever seen.

The 93-year-old underdog of Monmouth County, who served with the U.S. Navy, defeated incumbent Mayor Gerald M. Turning. Perillo took home 53 percent of the votes where as the current mayor fell a tad short at 46 percent.

Perillo said he went door-to-door for his campaign, wearing out 2 pairs of shoes... Obviously, his hard work paid off!
