Atlantic City Police made a significant drug bust Wednesday when they found over 1100 bags of heroin. Two city men were arrested and charged. One of the suspects unsuccessfully tried flushing 400 bags of the drug down the toilet before being apprehended.Here is a statement from the Atlantic city Police detailing the trafficking of the heroin and the arrests of the suspects...

"On October 26, 2016, in response to residents’ complaints regarding the sale of narcotics, Special Investigations Section detectives arrested two males and recovered 1,150 bags of heroin and a defaced handgun.

Shortly after 9:00 am, detectives observed two males, James Garland and Anthony Allen, conduct a narcotic transaction in the 1500 block of Sewell Avenue. Garland left the area and was returning to his residence in the 300 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard when Detective Brian Hambrecht attempted to stop him. Garland fled into his residence with Detective Hambrecht chasing him. Garland made it to the bathroom and attempted to flush 400 bags of heroin down the toilet. Garland resisted Detective Hambrecht’s efforts to take him into custody. With the assistance of responding officers, Garland was taken into custody. The 400 bags of heroin were recovered from the toilet.

Detectives took Anthony Allen, who was still on Sewell Avenue, into custody for the sale of narcotics. He was in control of two separate vehicles which were towed for further investigation. Detective Hambrecht applied for and was granted a search warrant for both vehicles. Detectives recovered 750 bags of heroin and a handgun from one of the vehicles.

ARRESTED: James Garland, a 30 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with the intent to distribute CDS, possession with the intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, possession with the intent to distribute CDS within 1000 feet of a school zone, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, and tampering with evidence.

Garland was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. His bail was set at $50,000.00.

ARRESTED: Anthony Allen, a 46 year old male from Atlantic City.

CHARGES: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with the intent to distribute CDS, distribution of CDS, possession with the intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, possession with the intent to distribute CDS within 1000 feet of a school zone, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of firearm during a CDS distribution crime, possession of a defaced firearm, and certain person not to possess a weapon.

Allen was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. His bail was set at $100,000.00.
