And another fish kill happened last week in Monmouth County.

Last week, more than an estimated 1 million fish were killed in Keansburg in Monmouth County.  It took days to remove the fish.

Over the weekend, another fish kill washed up in Ocean County, in a lagoon in Little Egg Harbor.  This time, 10,000-15,000 bunker fish were killed.

According to,

Officials have attributed the deaths of the bunker fish to "really, really high" populations in the water, said DEP spokesman Larry Hajna.

But why?

Mass fish kills tend to be a result of predators chasing them into shallow, warmer waters where oxygen is difficult to come by. The fish get trapped, as authorities believed they did Saturday in the lagoon in the Osborn Island section of Little Egg.

Super sad.

And unfortunately, there was another fish kill over the weekend in Atlantic Highlands.

Hopefully the predators go far, far, far out to sea!
