It is the battle of the singing competitions. American Idol has come back to our TVs as of Sunday night and The Voice started up their newest season a few weeks ago. American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8pm on ABC and The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC. This means you have to make a decision on which you are going to watch on Mondays, or you go back and forth between the two.

If you ask why most people watch The Voice the first response is Blake and Adam. People love the banter that goes on between the two judges. The Voice has capitalized on Blake and Adam's friendship and revolves the show around the judges more than the contestants. Why? Well, The Voice's track record for contestants isn't spectacular. The Voice has seen success in country music and really only country music. I went through each season of The Voice to see where the winners and other contestants are now...

Seasons 2, 3, 4, and 7 of The Voice have given country music Raelynn, Gwen Sebastian, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery, The Swon Brothers, and Craig Wayne Boyd. However, in other genres and Broadway contestants have had very minimal success.

On the other hand, American Idol has produced big names across most genres and Broadway. Season 1 gave the world Kelly Clarkson, season 2 had Clay Aiken who saw moderate success, and season 3 gave Fantasia (Grammy award winning R&B artist and Broadway success) and Jennifer Hudson. Season 4 gave the country world Carrie Underwood, who is arguably the most successful Idol winner and Constantine Maroulis who saw major success on Broadway. Seasons 5-8 gave us: Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Mandisa (Christian music success), Ace Young (Broadway success), Elliot Yamin, Taylor Hicks, Jordan Sparks, David Cook, David Archuleta, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Season 10 gave country music Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina and season 11's winner was Phillip Phillips. The "final" season's winner was Trent Harmon. That is a pretty impressive resume for American Idol.

Watching American Idol again this past Sunday and Monday made me realize just how much I missed the show. If I had to choose between Idol and The Voice I would pick Idol every time. Which would you choose?
