Atlantic City Firefighter and Cop Save Woman From Drowning

Two of Atlantic City's best and bravest worked to save a woman drowning off the beach in Atlantic City Saturday evening.

According to Atlantic City Police, just before 7:30pm, officers responded to a woman in distress in the jetty off the 500 block of the Boardwalk.

Officers Patrick Finegan and Kevin Dever arrived to find the victim, Tai’ay Conn, from Trenton, NJ, in the water, struggling to stay up.

An Atlantic City Firefighter, Acting Battalion Chief Kurt Marrone, had also arrived and was able to enter the water first to attempt to rescue Conn.  Officer Finegan removed his duty belt and gave it to Officer Dever.  He then entered the water to assist.  Marrone, who had grabbed on to Conn, was now being slammed against the jetty from the waves, and struggling to get out.  Finegan was able to pull him out of the water.  Finegan then pulled Conn to safety.  Finegan was also able to assist two other individuals out of the water who were trying to help the first responders when they slipped off the rocks into the ocean.

Conn declined any medical assistance.  Finegan, who sustained cuts to his hands and arms during the rescue, declined medical assistance.
