An Atlantic City man is facing charges after cops say he assaulted one of their own Sunday evening.

According to a press release, two Atlantic City police officers responded to the 500 block of Indiana Avenue just before 7:00 Sunday evening for the report of a domestic dispute.

Authorities say a 38-year-old woman was arguing with her boyfriend who would not return her car keys.

One officer attempted to speak to the boyfriend, identified as 44-year-old David Kitching of Atlantic City, but he refused and attempted to walk away several times. Cops say during the interaction, Kitching became agitated and punched an officer in the face, then he grabbed that officer and continued to punch him in the head. Cops managed to get Kitching to the ground where he continued to resist arrest, ultimately leading officers to use pepper spray on him.

Cops say EMTs responded to the scene to flush Kitching’s eyes, but due to his extreme agitation, he was transported to ARMC-City where he was treated and released. The officer that was assaulted did not seek medical treatment.

Kitching has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and an active warrant. He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
