The opiate problem - including heroin -  in this country has exploded, and the problem is just as evident in Atlantic County - if not more so.

A special Atlantic County Opiate Task Force has planned a public meeting to address this issue. The meeting is schedule for this Thursday evening, at 6pm, at the Mays Landing Branch of the Atlantic County Library.

According to a press release,

The purpose of the meeting is to invite all to join a group effort of Join Together Atlantic County, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and other regional law enforcement agencies, faith-based organizations, treatment providers, schools, and members of the public, to find solutions to the problem of opiate abuse.
Laurie Smith of the Atlantic County Opiate Task Force and Atlantic Prevention Resources notes that members of the Task Force “are asking community members to attend this meeting and help us combat the opiate crisis in our County.”
Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said that events like Thursday’s meeting “are important in dealing with this problem because they raise public awareness and work to direct resources toward prevention and recovery,” of “opiate abuse, one of the gravest problems facing not only law enforcement, but our society as a whole.”

The library is located at Farragut Avenue & Main Street in Mays Landing.
