Country singer Chely Wright is leveraging her sphere of influence to continue promoting a cause that she cares deeply and personally about. Wright, who came out just two years ago, has since created a philanthropic organization called Like Me that serves to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. Now, Like Me is opening a LGBT community center called the Lighthouse.
Taylor Swift is not one to hide her philanthropic heart or her concern for the well-being of children everywhere. The multi-Grammy award-winning 22-year-old has given generously of her time and money to work toward better early childhood education and to empower young children to have the resources to read. Now, there’s an internet campaign going on to raise awareness of the horrors of militant Ugandan rebel leader Joseph Kony, and Swift is in full support.
Each week on the remaining episodes of ‘American Idol‘ Season 11, one unfortunate hopeful will have to leave the stage for good. Rather than making that moment more awkward with silence or a peppy pop song spinning in the background, ‘Idol’ commissioned last season’s winner Scotty McCreery to record the farewell song to make it a memorable moment. McCreery chose to do a cover of Tim McGraw‘s 1999 hit, ‘Please Remember Me.’
Though Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert have become quite the ‘it couple’ in and beyond the realm of country music, the two agree that they’re not planning for kids anytime soon. In a recent interview with US Weekly, Shelton explained that while they will be ringing in their first anniversary in May, they’re content to put off that next step for just a little while longer.
Today (March 6), the Country Music Association announced that Garth Brooks will become one of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, along with keyboardist Hargus “Pigg” Robbins and singer Connie Smith. It comes as no surprise, of course, that this once-in-a-lifetime honor is being bestowed upon the record-setting, hit-spreading country king.
Taylor Swift is the covergirl of the April issue of Australia’s Harper’s Bazaar, and this past weekend that timing seemed just right as Swift performed the 100th show of her Speak Now World Tour in the land Down Under. Kicking off her final leg of the tour, Swift took the stage Friday at Perth’s Burswood Dome for her 99th show and then rounded out her centennial Speak Now performance Sunday at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
Aside from his multi-platinum country music career, you could say Trace Adkins has dabbled in the arts in a way. He wrote and released his own autobiographyin 2007, and he’s made appearance on several television shows as well. To top that, Adkins can be seen acting in a variety of films, including 2008′s ‘An American Carol’ and 2011′s ‘The Lincoln Lawyer.’
More than 20 years ago, in March of 1991, Reba McEntire experienced a tragedy that will stay with her for the rest of her life. On Sunday night (March 4), the country star opened up on the OWN show ‘Oprah’s Master Class’ about the tragic plane crash that took the lives of seven of her band members, as well as her tour manager and two pilots.
Country artist Matt Stillwell experienced a taste of last week’s devastating tornadoes, though thankfully, he was nowhere in the area. The big country music event slated for April is the telecast of the Academy of Country Music Awards, but now there’s another significant televised event happening soon after. On April 13, CBS will be featuring ‘ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends in Concert,’ which will include a variety of country duets featuring Lionel Richie and some of the top stars from ACMs, which air on April 1.
If there’s one thing you need to know about Brad Paisley before ever signing up to go on tour with him, it’s that the high-energy singer is anything but predictable. In a witty turn of events this past weekend, Paisley ended his prank war with young talent Scotty McCreery by not pranking the ‘The Trouble With Girls’ singer at all, instead going after the other young band on tour with him — the Band Perry.
Kristin Chenoweth has the trifecta of talents: She can act on film, she can act onstage, and boy can the girl sing. Now, the Emmy and Tony winner, who was also inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, is gearing up for a 19-city tour to support her September 2011 country album, ‘Some Lessons Learned.’ The tour will kick off May 9 at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre and will wrap June 24 in Chenoweth’s hometown of Broken Arrow, Okla.
