After the blockbuster success of God’s Not Dead, director Harold Cronk is looking to country music for inspiration for his next film. Deadline reports that the director is currently developing a “faith-based film” inspired by "Bless the Broken Road," the song made famous by Rascal Flatts.

Cronk's as-yet-untitled film will follow the story of a single mother whose husband is killed in Afghanistan, and will incorporate elements of “stock car racing, faith and country music.”

"Bless the Broken Road," originally recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, was an incredible success when released by the Flatts in 2004. Penned in 1994, “Bless the Broken Road” was co-written by Marcus Hummon and bandmate Jeff Hanna after the latter returned from his honeymoon.

“We got to talking about the circuitous route you take in life and how sometimes you think things are horrible and are never going to get better, but they lead you to something that ultimately is a lot better, whether it’s a relationship, spiritual path, business or whatever,” Hanna told The Boot in 2014.

Rascal Flatts, meanwhile, credit the track with not only changing their lives but also inspiring a number of incredibly special moments at the band’s live shows -- including plenty of wedding proposals.

“I don’t know if people realize just how impacted we are by that,” Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney told The Boot earlier this year. “It’s so cool that we’re seeing something so profound to so many people. I got married after that song was out, so it hits me in a different way now … It’s just amazing that “Broken Road” is such a special part of our lives.”

The "Broken Road"-inspired film is set for release in late 2016 or early 2017.
