The body of a man who washed ashore on Sumner Avenue in Strathmere Tuesday has been identified as that of a former South Jersey mayor.

The Press of Atlantic City is reporting that the former mayor of Clayton, Gloucester County, was identified Wednesday as the person found dead Tuesday on the beach in Strathmere, Upper Township.

The body of Jeffrey Radio, 43, of Clayton, was found by people in a news helicopter flying overhead, State Police said. His body was found near the edge of the surf.

An autopsy performed by the medical examiner will determine the cause of Radio's death.

Radio graduated from Clayton High School in 1990. He was a vice president at Sun National Bank in Maple Shade, and served as mayor from 2009 to 2012.

According to NJ.com, relatives politely declined to discuss the cause of death when contacted Wednesday.
