A song that helps defines country music turns 43 years old today.

"Coal Miners Daughter" was recorded by Loretta Lynn on October 1st, 1969. This song, which tells the story of her life growing up on a hill in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, was released in the middle of a career hot streak -- over 30 of Lynn's songs were top ten hits in a 12 year span covering the mid 196s through the mid 1970s.
