An alleged burglar from Egg Harbor Township was found cowering in some bushes, with machete in hand and his trusty bicycle nearby.

Police in Hamilton Township say they responded to a burglary-in-progress call at a home on Mays Landing-Somers Point Road around 2am Sunday.

The homeowner awoke and attempted to detain an intruder, but the intruder managed to flee.

Moments later, Ofc. Wade Smith located the suspect’s bicycle a short distance away. Sgt. Chris Robell and his K-9 partner, Kota, responded to the area to conduct a track of the suspect. The track led officers into a wooded area, where the suspect was hiding behind a pile of brush. Upon locating the suspect, he was observed to be in possession of a machete. K-9 Kota apprehended the suspect and he was arrested without further incident.

Arrested was Dominic Pileggi, 30, of Egg Harbor Township. He's been charged with burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. He's being held in the Atlantic County Jail.
