Additional Information

At 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 16th, the New Jersey Army National Guard Armory at milepost 11 on the Garden State Parkway will be dedicated to the memory of Lieutenant Colonel James F. Barkalow.    Lt. Col. Barkalow graduated Wildwood High School, and shortly after Pearl Harbor joined the Army Air Corps. He flew 46 air combat missions in four major campaigns in the European Theater during WWII.  As one of the original organizers of the Cape May County Army National Guard Battalions, he went on to be the longest serving commander, retiring with over 28 years of service.  This will be only the second Armory dedication in the state of New Jersey.

The public and former members of the National Guard units are cordially invited to come hear the Coast Guard Training Center Band, listen to the dignitaries’ comments, see a military formation, and just say “Thank You” to the soldiers and veterans.  Call 465-9612 for more information.
