During a standing-room only session Monday night, the Atlantic City School Board voted to reinstate Phillip Eisenstein, the gym teacher fired for breaking up a fight in October between two students in his class at New York Avenue School.

Eisenstein was fired in February, even after an investigation by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Institutional Abuse Unit concluded that he had not used excessive force when he dragged the student responsible for the fight to the school office.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that the reinstatement comes with conditions which were not outlined during Monday's school board meeting.

According to Townsquare Media's Harry Hurley, the school board has assured that Eisenstein will be brought back for the 2016-17 school year, giving him sufficient time to reach tenure in his position.

The six school board members in attendance at Monday's meeting voted unanimously for the reinstatement.

“I’m ready to go back,” Eisenstein told the Press of Atlantic City,“This was very stressful, mentally and physically”.
