A former Egg Harbor City Detective pled guilty yesterday to charges of misconduct by exploiting his position by having sex with a number of women.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain, Steven Hadley, 31, was charged with four counts of second-degree official misconduct.

The charges specified that Hadley committed acts related to his office that constituted unauthorized use of his official position as a police officer in
order to obtain benefit for himself, specifically sexual conduct.
The State alleges that while performing his official duties,Hadley took part in sexual acts with four different women on various occasions,spanning the period between January of 2010 through May of 2013.
Hadley’s attorney was served with the charges on behalf on his client because Hadley was hospitalized in critical condition at the time
following a serious car accident
.
Hadley waived presentation of the case to a Grand Jury and pled guilty to the accusation. In accordance with a plea agreement, Hadley pled guilty
before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Michael A. Donio
to one count of Official Misconduct, a crime of the 2nd degree.
A 2nd degree crime carries a potential penalty of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison for 5 - 10 years.

Hadley will be sentenced by Judge Donio on November 21, 2014.
Immediately following the entry of the guilty plea, at the request of the State,
Judge Donio signed an order forfeiting the defendant’s public
position and any pension rights.
