A former Hammonton High School Band Director pleaded guilty yesterday to official misconduct and the sexual assault of a student.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that Jason Koenig, 27, of Hammonton quit his job last April, after an investigation began.

Jason Koenig, now 27, admitted to digitally penetrating a student in the band three to five times from Nov. 13, 2013, to Jan. 14 of this year.

In May, he was charged with three second-degree crimes, including endangering the welfare of a child. He was also charged with a fourth-degree crime of criminal sexual contact.

Koenig, a 2006 graduate of the high school, said he worked part-time as a personal care aide and also as director of the jazz and marching bands. He had been there since 2009.

He had not yet been indicted on the charges, and pleaded to the accusations before Superior Court Judge Michael Donio.

Under the agreement, he faces a five-year sentence for official misconduct, and must serve at least two years on that charge. He also faces a five-year sentence with no mandatory minimum term on a charge of sexual assault. The remaining charges will be dropped.

Koenig would have lifetime supervision under Megan's Law.

He will be sentenced following an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel, which is required of all sex offenders to see if they are considered repetitive offenders.
