A few weeks ago, Taste of Country reported that Gloriana singer and guitarist Tom Gossin had popped the question to his now-fiancee Jaime Moffett. While we knew that Gossin revealed the news at a show at the Rome Capital Theater in upstate New York, we didn’t yet know all the little details about the ring, what led Gossin to take the next step and exactly how the proposal played out. In a recent interview with Country Weekly, the singer dished on all the juicy details, and now we’re able to pass them along to you.

Gossin says the stone in Jaime’s ring is a “1920s European-cut stone,” adding, “I think it’s like a carat-and-a-half and is on platinum.” On meeting his longtime girlfriend, he says he knew from the beginning it was something bigger than a normal meeting.

“We went on to be best friends and really grew up together through our 20s,” the singer details. “Just like every relationship we’ve had our ups and downs and we even split a time or two to work things out and ended up coming back together. I’ve always heard if you let something go and it comes back, it’s because it was meant to be. That happened twice with us. She’s really my best friend and I think the decision for me to get married was because I’ve had her in my life and I’ve had her not in my life and I just don’t ever want to have her not in my life ever again.”

After deciding he was ready to take it to the next level, Gossin says he was stressed about finding the right ring. Driving around Nashville with his dad one day, he mentioned his anxiety on the issue, saying he wanted to find something one-of-a-kind with a vintage look.

“As we were saying this, and driving down 21st Street, we saw a sign in front of this little shop that said ‘Vintage Engagement Rings,’ right as we are talking about it,” he remembers. The two went in and landed on just the right ring in no time. “It was the first one that I looked at that I liked and that was the one that I got. It took a day. I had stressed out about it for a long time, thinking it was going to be a tough process, but it fell right into place. It all just felt right.”

As far as the actual moment when he popped the question, Gossin proposed to his girlfriend of 10 years on the patio of her Atlanta apartment before a Radiohead concert… on their anniversary. With a friend catching everything on film under the guise of filming a video of Atlanta, Gossin knelt down and surprised Jaime so much she dropped everything she was holding — “which I believe was a cheap can of beer and her car keys,” says the groom-to-be.

“The great thing is we have it on video so we kind of have it for the rest of our lives. If we ever have children we can show them this video of how we got engaged.” Though the two have yet to land on a date for their perfect day, Gossin says he’s thinking it will happen sometime next year. “Being a musician, my schedule changes daily, so we’ll have to find a good time to take some time to have a nice party.”
