The Scripps National Spelling Bee begins today in Washington D.C. Good luck to our local contestant, Ebose Eigbee of Roland Rogers Elementary in Galloway!

Eigbee won the South Jersey Spelling Bee earlier this year in a competition held at  Absegami High School. The local Spelling Bee was sponsored, in part, by Cat Country 107.3 and Townsquare Media.

278 spellers from around the world will be competing. The youngest contestant is a six-year-old from Virginia. Lori Anne Madison is the youngest speller in the history of the national bee.

There are slightly more girls than boys in this year's competition.
