You've probably heard bits and pieces of the song for most of your life, but chances are you have never heard the whole song and really don't know anything about it.

The Action News concept was born in the early 1970s at channel 6 in Philadelphia and within a matter of a few years, it became the most-watched newscast in the city. 40 years later, Jim Gardner and the gang are still at the top of the mountain in our region.

If you watch Action News, you know the little instrumental music beds that they use during the newscast and you probably know the, "move closer to your world my friend" lyrics sometimes heard at the end. Those music beds and those lyrics are all part of one song, of which there are several more verses...

According to Wikipedia, the "Move Closer To Your World" theme was originally written by Al Ham in 1970 and since then has been used all over the country and around the world, most notably at channel 6 in Philly. The group singing the lyrics in the original version is The Hillside Singers, which performed on several different jingles for products heard on TV over the years, including Coca-Cola's, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" jingle.
