HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Broke the Internet and the Record Books [VIDEO/POLL]

If you don’t watch ‘Game of Thrones‘ on HBO, you may be in a very, very small minority. How do we know this? Well, because Sunday’s season 4 premiere, “Two Swords,” not only broke a record for viewership, it literally broke the internet as well.

According to one of the best websites for television addicts, moviepilot.com, Sunday’s premiere drew 6.6 million viewers. And that was just viewers who sat down to watch it on their televisions on Sunday night. "HBO Go did experience issues due to overwhelming demand around the premiere of Game of Thrones. The service has returned to several platforms and we are working hard towards full recovery, which we expect soon."

How many viewers it had when you factor in those who watched it online remains unclear because the show was getting so much traffic on HBO’s steaming service, HBO Go, a ton of online viewers received error messages during the episode, prompting HBO to release a statement.

This was actually the second time in a few weeks that HBO Go had some “technical issues.” It crashed during last month’s ‘True Detective’ finale.

Despite crashing HBO Go, the 6.6 million viewers made Sunday’s premiere the cable network’s most watched show ever. It topped the 2007 Soprano series finale.

Watch the Preview for This Sunday’s Episode, “The Lion and the Rose.”
