It’s always refreshing to recognize someone who selflessly thinks about others needs before their own.

So we have to give a special shout out to Sarah Vandever from Sea Isle City!

Ten years ago, Sarah began working with students with Autism where she quickly grew to love her kids. They have such life, compassion, and strength which gives Sarah inspiration, as they approached everyday like a new adventure.

What’s really cool is that; Although Sarah is THEIR teacher, she says that her students have taught HER just as much as she has taught them. And for that, she’s forever changed and forever grateful.

Sarah believes it’s important to teach children to find a cause they are passionate about and find a way to help.

In which case, Sarah has participated the Mike's Seafood Polar Bear Run/ Walk for Autism for the past 6 years. Every year, Sarah along with a team of family and friends, hit the streets to raise money for various Autism charities.

During the most recent 2017 Polar Bear Plunge, Sarah’s team raised over $2,000 in just 4 hours. So, in anticipation for next year’s Polar Plunge, Sarah wants to make a greater impact by running for Polar Bear Queen.

She has set a fundraising goal of $20,000 and since she’s looking ahead, she has 11 months to achieve it.

All money raised by what they call “Royal Court Contestants” is donated to the Mike's Seafood Polar Bear Run/ Walk for Autism who will be celebrating their 10th year this year. Last year was their biggest year where over 4000 participants and raised $158,000.  The funds are then donated to various national and local organizations to support research, education, therapy, and treatments.

Anyone interested in helping Sarah reach her goal can check out her Facebook and Go-Fund-Me page. You can also help spread the word by commenting, liking and sharing this story with #Sarah4Queen2018
