How To Invent A National Holiday

Just wondering...

Why is there now a holiday for every single idea under the sun? Think I'm joking? I'm not... National Lazy Day, National Avocado Day, National Drink Wine Day, National Love Your Dog Day, the list goes on and on.

For example, today, August 24, is Shooting Star Day, National Waffle Day, National Peach Pie Day, and Can Opener Day. Yep. CAN OPENER DAY. What is the deal??

Don't get me wrong, it's super fun to celebrate some of them (like National Wine Day), but I want to know whose idea it was to set aside a day for all of these. Furthermore, stop and think for a second about the fact that someone's entire job is dedicated to deciding what should be the next holiday.  Not a bad job to have, right?

After doing a little research, I discovered how to nominate a holiday and it's not as hard as you'd think. All you have to do is submit a request through the National Calendar Day website. Easy peasy.

I would like to nominate a day: National Give Jahna Guacamole Day. Let's make that happen.
