Josephine Stapleton, Mays Landing’s Milk Jug Lady, Passes Away

Sad news to report: Josephine Stapleton, who took care of hundreds of colorful milk jugs for years at her Mays Landing home, has passed away.

If you lived in or traveled through South Jersey over the years, you probably passed by (or at least knew about) the house on Route 40 in Mays Landing that had a thousand colored milk jugs in its yard. The designs and patterns of those milk jugs changed with the holidays and seasons, often showing displays for Valentine's Day, Easter, and her iconic American Flag display.

The person behind the milk jugs is Josephine Stapleton, who sadly passed away on December 4th.

According to her obituary in The Press of Atlantic City, Stapleton was a school bus driver for many years with the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District, First Student Transportation, and Integrity Transportation. Her milk jugs were featured in Life Magazine and in countless newspaper articles over the years.

Donations may be made in her name to Hammonton Center, 43 White Horse Pike, Hammonton, NJ 08037. Friends may call Thursday evening, December 10th, from 6-8PM at Boakes Funeral Home on Main Street in Mays Landing.
