Man Arrested After Dropping Handgun While Running from Police in Atlantic City
An 18-year-old man from Atlantic City is facing charges after he fled from police following a traffic stop and, while running from officers, dropped a handgun.
According to a press release, around 10:20 Sunday morning, an ACPD officer stopped a car at New York and Atlantic Avenues for an equipment violation. While speaking with the driver, 20-year-old Kimberly Espinoza from Ventnor, the officer allegedly smelled raw or unburnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Espinoza and her passenger, 18-year-old Javan Bostic of Atlantic City, were asked to exit the vehicle.
After Bostic exited the vehicle, the officer began to speak with him regarding the smell of marijuana; Bostic then took off running. As Bostic crossed Atlantic Avenue, a handgun fell from his waistband. A pursuing officer was able to retrieve the weapon.
Bostic was chased into the City Hall parking lot where he attempted to hide. Officers found him hiding behind a security guard booth and was taken into custody. While being searched, Bostic was found with five bags of heroin in his pants pocket.
Bostic was charged with weapons and CDS offenses and for resisting arrest; he was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail. Espinoza is facing possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia charges plus two motor vehicle summons; she was released on a summons with a future court date.
