ACPD detectives conducting a surveillance operation lead to the arrest of an Atlantic City man and the recovery of a handgun and narcotics.

Thursday morning, detectives were on the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue following complaints from residents and merchants about drug deals. According to a press release, they observed 22-year-old Ernest Thompson of Atlantic City engage in a narcotic transaction with an unknown female.

Detectives stopped Thompson and recovered a loaded handgun and 40 bags of marijuana inside Thompson’s vehicle. Thompson was placed in custody without incident. Officers could not locate the unknown female.

Thompson was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute CDS, possession with intent to distribute CDS within 500 feet of a public zone, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense. Thompson was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
