A 47-year-old man was killed in a construction accident in Lower Township yesterday.

Lower Township Police say they responded to 14 Sprucewood Avenue in the Villas following the report of a person falling:

Upon arrival, officers found Joel Duarte-Dutra, age 47, of Maple Shade, NJ, unconscious and bleeding on the ground. Witnesses stated he fell from scaffolding, while framing a porch on the residence, which is under construction.

Lifesaving efforts were attempted by the Lower Township Police Department, Lower Township Rescue Squad and the AtlantiCare Emergency Medical Services, with negative results. Originally, a Medevac helicopter was requested, but later cancelled when pronouncement was made on scene.

 

Investigators say Duarte-Dutra was working on some scaffolding when he may have been hit by a falling board, causing his to fall to the ground.

The investigation is continuing.
