NJ Transit To Stay Suspended Indefinitely

NJ Transit will remain suspendedindefinitely due to damage to equipment and facilities throughout the system caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The suspension includes bus, rail, light rail and Access Link,

“The NJ Transit system has experienced unprecedented devastation in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Destruction summarizes the impact to rails, rail yards, bus depot and critical operation centers”, said NJ Transit Board Chairman and NJ Department of Transportation Commissioner James Simpson. “With the break of daylight, NJ Transit began to inspect and assess the full extent of the damage. Our employees are committed to restoring the system as safely and efficiently as humanly possible.”

e early Tuesday morning that left two boats sitting on top of the bridge. The Coast Line also has several washouts.

There is also flooding inside the Newark Light Rail tunnels and debris has affected power lines along the Hudson North Bergen Light Rail.

SEPTA has announced that many of its services will resume on Tuesday except for regional rail service. Governor Chris Christie says PATH will be out of service for the next 7-10 days as the Hoboken and Jersey City stations were damaged by the  tidal surge.
