Your big date night might turn out to be a home run or a strike out, but, if it's in New Jersey, it's almost certainly going to be expensive. A survey of the average cost of a date ranks New Jersey as second highest in America, behind only New York.

Nationally, the average cost of a date today — in the form of dinner for two, a bottle of wine, and two movie tickets — is about $102.32.

Acccording to online-dating giant Match.com, the average single American spent $1,596 on dating in 2016.

Match’s annual survey of more than 5,000 people found that New York topped the list for the highest average cost for a date night at $297.27. New Jersey ranked second at $259.60, followed by Hawaii and Connecticut.

Meanwhile, South Dakota came in as the least expensive date night, with an average cost of just $38.27. North Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa were runner-ups for least expensive.

That's right. Match says a date in New Jersey will run you $260, while the same dating experience in South Dakota would be $38! Really? What kind of dinner, wine and movie tickets can you get for only $38? Is the dinner at the South Dakota White Castle? Do they White Castles in South Dakota? Do they really date in South Dakota?
