Every day I navigate the traffic on West Jersey Avenue in Egg Harbor Township. Actually, it's more like look for an opening and gassing it, when it comes to turning onto the road.

I live a mile or two away from West Jersey Avenue, and, I have to tell you, it has become increasingly dangerous. Intersections are becoming more and more dangerous - and, stop signs need to be replaced by traffic lights.

Sadly, an accident on the dangerous street yesterday claimed a life.

According to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, the crash which occurred at approximately 2:20 pm on West Jersey Avenue at Fernwood Avenue, in the Cardiff section of the township.

Police say that a 2006 BMW X5 operated by Igor Ilijoski, 36, of Brigantine, was proceeding south on Fernwood Avenue when it disregarded the stop sign at West Jersey Avenue and entered the intersection at speed. The BMW was struck simultaneously by one vehicle traveling east and one traveling east west. The impact caused the BMW to overturn in the roadway.

The eastbound vehicle was a Chevy Atlantic County Utility Authority pickup operated by Richard Bourginon, 57, of Port Republic, whose vehicle left the road way after the impact and coming to rest on the front lawn of a residence. Bourginon was treated at the scene for serious injuries and transported to AtlantiCare City Campus Trauma Center where he died from his injuries.

The westbound vehicle was a 2000 Honda CRV operated by Helga Horn from Mays Landing, that suffered significant damages and came to rest in the intersection. A fourth vehicle was involved in the crash after the initial impact. The 2003 Mazda was operated by Elaine Eastlack, 86 years of age from Mays Landing. This vehicle also sustained severe damage and came to rest in the intersection.
