The Clarion Hotel in West Atlantic City is transitioning in to the Atrium Apartments at Egg Harbor, a project mandated to satisfy the state’s obligation for affordable housing.

An open house is being held at noon Thursday, Feb. 11 to view the apartments.

The Atrium Apartments at Egg Harbor, which were built in part from $5.5 million worth of federal recovery funds, are open to all residents. However, people displaced by Sandy will have first priority, according to the state Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency.

“Superstorm Sandy impacted New Jerseyans of all socioeconomic levels, including low-to-moderate income working families who are often living paycheck to paycheck,” DCA Commissioner Charles A. Richman said. “Atrium Apartments is providing these storm-affected families — and people of limited financial means in general — with much needed affordable housing options in a county that was hit hard by the storm.”
Phase one of the Atrium includes 84 units with new appliances in a variety of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. Rents start at $549 per month for a one-bedroom unit to $810 for a three-bedroom model.

The website for the Atrium Apartments promises “beauty and warmth of its lovely, two–story entrance and six-story, sky-lighted atrium. Our apartments are conveniently located close to major highways, shopping, recreation, entertainment, and employment opportunities. Many shopping options are within walking distance.”

A second phase of the project at the Black Horse Pike location will include 60 more rooms, bringing the total number to 144 units. Egg Harbor Township is mandated by the state to provide 763 total units of new affordable housing. Construction of Atrium Apartments is 75 percent finished, according to the DCA and the HMFA.

To qualify to live at the Atrium, you must earn at least $15,072, but not more than $47,700 per year.

Rental applicants must pass criminal, background, credit and drug screenings and have a recommendation from a previous landlord.
