Parents of a month-old infant should still be ecstatic with joy at the new arrival in their lives. Instead, one local couple are facing charges of causing serious brain injuries by shaking the infant.

Vineland Police have charged the parents of a one-month-old baby with neglect after the baby was found with head trauma consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

A.I. DuPont Hospital in Delaware contacted Vineland Police and the on Jan. 10 to report  a suspected case of child abuse. A one-month-old baby was found with life-threatening injuries.

According to The Daily Journal, the baby showed a serious brain injury caused by forceful shaking. An investigation led to the arrest of the baby's parents, Enrique R. Rivera and Maria C. Sanchez, of South East Avenue, in Vineland.

The parents face charges of child neglect. Rivera was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
