Potentially Deadly Suicide-by-Cop Scene Averted in Hamilton Township
A potentially deadly situation involving a Hamilton Township man who, officers say, wanted to have police shoot and kill him ended much better than it could have Monday night.
Around 9:00 Monday night, Hamilton Township Police responded to a residence on Rosebay Place for a 24-year-old suicidal male.
When they arrived, according to a press release, they encountered a man who made statements indicating he wanted the officers to shoot him. As the officers went to detain the subject, he allegedly reached for an officer's gun and attempted to disarm the cop. The subject continued to refuse to comply with commands and physical force was used to subdue the subject.
The unnamed suspect was charged with second degree attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer acting in the performance of his duties and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Neither officer was injured in the incident.
