Gone are the days of away messages with too many *** and ~~~.

Yes, AOL announced that they would be shutting down AIM for good.

Let's all take a moment of silence for all those of the screen names we made, because we all had more than one.

Your screen name was your way to express yourself to the world and you felt like you had to be creative with the name. Most of us changed our screen name over the years to reflect ourselves throughout all of our phases.

I was at one point PinkFigureSk8r.

Yes, I used to figure skate. Using an 8 and other numbers in placement of letters was cool back then. I don't know why. My name gave me Avril Lavigne vibes with her song "Sk8er Boi".

My next screen name was dncthroughlife. I was a fan of the Broadway play Wicked and danced.

So maybe I wasn't all that creative.

The amount of underscores and X's in screen names was at an almost unnecessary level.

20 years of that wonderful door opening sound effect when your friends singed on. 20 years of a door shutting sound effect when they logged out. 20 years of that, I don't know how to describe it, sound effect every time you got a new message.

Cheers to you AIM. Gone, but not forgotten.
