Rascal Flatts are getting in the holiday spirit early this year: Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus have been spent much of the sweltering summer in the studio working on their first-ever Christmas album.

"We’ve done some one-offs here and there, but this is the first full project we’ve done, and it’s fun," DeMarcus recently told The Boot and other reporters. "It’s a little odd to sing "Let It Snow" in 100-degree weather, but it’s been fun."

While each of the Flatts' members are prolific songwriters, they won't include any new music on the project.

"We’ve talked back and forth about it, and for a lot of people, Christmastime, that’s all they want is the classics," LeVox shares. "But, of course, we put our spin on it, and it’s really exciting."

In addition to their summer studio time, the country trio has been spending the year's warm months on the road for their Rhythm & Roots Tour -- and looking for songs for their next non-holiday album.

"We’ve got a batch of songs that we feel really good about, and we’re excited about cutting some new music," says DeMarcus. "It’s been a while for us."

Rascal Flatts are joined by Kelsea Ballerini and Chris Lane on their Rhythm & Roots Tour; a list of all of their upcoming shows is available on their website.

Country music fans can also expect holiday releases in 2016 from Chris Young and Kacey Musgraves.
