Second Person Arrested in Connection with a 2015 Murder in Mays Landing

Authorities have arrested a second person in connection with a November, 2015, murder in Mays Landing.

Back on the evening of November 9, 2015, police responded to the 5900 block of Elmhurst Drive in Mays Landing after receiving a 9-1-1 call. When they arrived, they found 31-year-old Michael Black suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Black later died at Atlantic City Medical Center-City.

The next day, police arrested now 37-year-old Dennis J. Munoz of Galloway and charged him with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun.

A further investigation has now led to the arrest of a second person, 42-year-old Edwin V. Velazquez of Atlantic City. Velazquez has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, that he “did...agree to aid Dennis Munoz in the planning and/or commission of the murder of Michael Black,” and being an accomplice to murder, both crimes of the 1st degree, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office. Velazquez was taken into custody at Atlantic City Public Works, where he was employed.
