Josephine Stapleton's Route 40 lawn of 1,000 Milk Jugs was an iconic South Jersey roadside landmark since 1974.

I was saddened to see Josephine's obituary in today's paper. She passed on Friday, December 4, 2015. The obituary mentions that, "it made others as happy to remember the landmark on Rt. 40. Radio stations often did remotes from her lawn to feature the famous flag on holidays such Memorial Day, 4th of July and especially Flag Day."

It continued by saying, "Donations may be made in her name to Hammonton Center, 43 White Horse Pike, Hammonton, NJ 08037."

Even though the Milk Jug Lady hasn't lived in her rented Rt. 40 home in awhile now, her legendary artwork lives on. When I first posted about her on Lite Rock's website, many people came forward with their memories of her milk jug creations.

Many still remember her milk jug displays of Valentine hearts, Irish shamrocks, the Easter Bunny, a rainbow, and the very patriotic American flag displayed in red, white, and blue milk jugs.

Check out a 2008 video from WeirdNJ.com where she tells the history of her milk jug art.
