EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - A New York man, run down by a car Sunday night on the Black Horse Pike, remains hospitalized in Atlantic City with extensive injuries.

Police were summoned to the highway, near Fox Place, at about 11:17 PM. Officers reported that Farooq Azad, 56, of the Bronx, was in the roadway when the 2006 Mercury Milan driven by Maria Fotiou, 18, of Egg Harbor Township, hit him.

Azad was treated by Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad members and AtlantiCare paramedics, then taken to AtlantiCare Regiona Medical Center, City Campus, police said.

Officer Robert Moran of the EHTPD Traffic Safety Unit leads the investigation. There is no word of any charges having been filed.

Police did not disclose whether road conditions, lighting conditions, visibility, distractions or impairments are under investigation, whether Azad was crossing, or simply standing, in the roadway, or whether he was in a crosswalk at the time.
