Five people were injured, including two seriously, in a four vehicle crash on the Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Township Thursday evening.

Hamilton Township Police say they responded to the Black Horse Pike near mile marker 44, which is just west of Route 50, around 6:15 Thursday evening for the report of a crash.

In a press release, cops say,

The investigation revealed a red Volkswagen was stopped in the left, westbound lane of the Black Horse Pike attempting to make a U-turn when it was struck by a black Dodge Caravan (also going westbound) operated by Leonard Hicks (36/M) of Newtonville. The impact pushed the Volkswagen into the eastbound lane, causing it to collide with a green Mercury, operated by Khalid Muhammad (58/M) of Atlantic City. The black Caravan also crossed over into the eastbound lanes after impact, and struck a black Hyundai Sonata, driven by Timothy Pickett (24/M) of Egg Harbor Township.

Hicks and Pickett were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene. Muhammad was transported to ARMC-Mainland for treatment of his injuries. The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen sustained serious injuries and were transported to ARMC-City; their identities have not been confirmed at this time.

This section of the Black Horse Pike was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was cleared.
