Grand Teton National Park rangers have rescued two Shore snowboarders who got lost in the park’s Granite Canyon area.

Park officials say 55-year-old Joe Tarou of Brick and 36-year-old Mike Fasciolli of Toms River left a gate at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on Monday afternoon intending to access the Rock Springs Bowl, but they ended up in the park instead.

The two had a mobile phone, and rescuers were able to determine the men were in the national park’s backcountry. They found the men around 10 p.m. Monday.

Park officials say the snowboarders weren’t hurt but didn’t have winter back country experience. They say the men also didn’t have food, water, lights or appropriate avalanche gear.
