The Los Angeles Angels have selected a premiere South Jersey baseball player in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft.

Joe Gatto, a pitcher who just graduated from St. Augustine Prep was selected by the Angels with the 53rd selection in the draft.

The Angles are apparently using the Cape Atlantic League as their own training ground, as back in 2009 they selected Millville's Mike Trout with in the first round. The Trout selection worked out pretty good - as he's one of baseball's top players.

Gatto and his family will now have to decide whether or not to agree to a contract with the Angles, or pass it up and and accept his scholarship offer with the University of North Carolina.
