South Jersey CVS Locations Will Sell You Anti-Overdose Drug Over the Counter

Heroin kills.

A pharmacy chain with numerous locations in South Jersey is trying to do what it can to stop the dying.

The news - and even obituaries - have been filled with people dying of heroin overdoses. (Although when people hear the word "overdose" they think it implies that the victim "took too much." That's not always the case. Sometimes it's just a "regular amount" that causes the problem.)

Heroin has been a big killer in South Jersey. A number of local police departments have made it a point to carry the Naloxone to give to people who overdose on heroin. A number of lives have been saved locally, because of the administration of the drug.

Now, CVS Pharmacy has announced that they will make Naloxone available over-the-counter in New Jersey and 13 other states.

Tom Davis, Vice President of Pharmacy Professional Practices at CVS/pharmacy, says, "Over 44,000 people die from accidental drug overdoses every year in the United States and most of those deaths are from opioids, including controlled substance pain medication and illegal drugs such as heroin. Naloxone is a safe and effective antidote to opioid overdoses and by providing access to this medication in our pharmacies without a prescription in more states, we can help save lives."
