15 year old Chris Wildes of the Ocean Acres section of Stafford Township was riding an all-terrain vehicle Friday night on Mermaid Drive with another teen when they lost control and ran off the road through the front yard of a house on the 1800 block of Breakers Drive. Both boys were ejected.

The driver of the ATV, who’s identity has not been released, was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center where he was treated and released after suffering only minor injuries.

Wildes was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where he was listed in serious and critical condition. According to an investigator at the scene of the crash Saturday morning, Wildes suffered several broken bones, a broken back, brain damage and other devastating injuries.

Wildes was taken off life support Sunday. The Stafford Township Police Department is continuing the investigation into the accident.

At the scene of the crash, special spray paint showing the path of the ATV remain, even after Sunday’s rain storm. Almost a hundred people turned out to honor his memory at a candlelight vigil last night.
