State Troopers Shoot Man In Brick Following Pursuit
New details have been released in the case of a police pursuit that began in West Trenton and ended with a Trooper shooting a man on a Carolina Avenue porch in the Herbertsville section of Brick Township.
The suspect has been identified as Michael Zaun, 30, Delanco.
The 55-mile-long pursuit began in West Trenton around 12:30 a.m. when State Troopers attempted to stop a white Nissan Pathfinder on Route 29, police say. Zaun refused to stop the vehicle, then eluded officers, leading them on a pursuit eastbound on Interstate 195 across the state and all the way to Carolina Avenue in Brick.
State Police confirm Zaun pulled the Pathfinder onto the lawn, sprinted from the vehicle, disregarding orders from the Troopers to stop. That’s when one Trooper shot the suspect.
State Police say Zaun fired a gun during the police pursuit, but that none of the three Troopers were injured.
“It’s the first thing that’s ever happened here. This is a very awesome neighborhood, awesome people, crazy that that even happened,” a neighbor at the scene told Reporter Stacy Proebstle.
The names of the Troopers involved have not been released.
