Tense moments this morning in parts of Mays Landing as police and residents dealt with a suspicious device.

Earlier this morning, Hamilton Township Police responded to Rhododendron Court in the Woodlands Condominium Complex for the report of a suspicious device. Upon arrival, officers observed the device and evacuated area residents. With help from the Atlantic City Bomb Squad, Atlantic County Hazmat crews, Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, the Cologne and Laureldale Fire Departments, and Mays Landing Rescue Squad, it was determined that the object was made to appear like an explosive device and wasn't actually real.

According to a press release from the Hamilton Township Police Department, a suspect was developed by police and identified as John Carretta of Mays Landing, who is currently in custody and being charged with False Public Alarm and Maintaining a Public Nuisance.
