Have mercy! I read an article today that described when both men and women start their middle age 'spread.' Apparently women are most likely to gain weight at 38 and men at age 44. I won't go into why it's so unfair that men have an advantage, nope, this time I'm going to take it on the chin! See, I'm 39 years old and staring 40 straight in the eye. If 38 was my worse year, than there's hope yet, especially because I just started the Couch to 5K program!

According to the women polled in the survey, they said the main reasons for their weight gain centered around responsibilities and stress regarding their kids. Men blamed it on being too busy with their career and family to work out. I'm not sure I buy those as the top reasons for weight gain, but I'm sure they're contributing factors. I've gotta think that hormones and metabolism have something to do with it. And possibly the dreaded CHANGE! Other reasons for weight gain given were marriage, letting one's self go, etc...

Regardless, it turns out the myth of the middle age spread is actually true. If you don't already like your vegetables, maybe it's time to give them a try again... without all of the butter and cheese!
