According to a press release from Governor Christie's office, the ugly fence on the Garden State Parkway by the Great Egg Harbor Bridge is coming down starting Monday.

The ugly, $250,000 prison-style fence (that recently had a wide-open gate that anyone could walk through) that was erected along the Garden State Parkway to keep potential terrorists away from the Great Egg Harbor Bridge is coming down starting Monday, much to the happiness of area residents. Governor Christie said, "The Turnpike Authority will begin work on removing the fence this Monday, with the intention of having both the fence and posts removed by Memorial Day."

The removed pieces of fencing will be reused on other areas of the Garden State Parkway. Approximately 500 feet of reengineered fencing will remain in select areas.
