This is, by far, the worst idea I've ever seen or heard to boost tourism here at the shore.

This idea is so bad I actually had to check the date of it to make sure it wasn't an April Fools Joke.

A letter to the editor in the Cape May County Herald on April 3rd says one way to improve tourism at the shore is to make some illegal drugs legal -- like cocaine and club drugs (i.e. ecstasy).

I told you I had to make sure it wasn't an April Fools Joke.

The letter says, "As we approach another summer season on the Jersey Shore, many residents and visitors are going to be bringing commonly enjoyed substances such as cannabis, cocaine and MDMA with them to enhance those great summer nights."

MDMA, for those of you who don't "commonly enjoy" it, is ecstasy (I Google'd it).

That's followed by, "New Jerseyans should have a right to smoke a joint, pop a molly or do a line when they go down the shore."

"Popping a molly" is slang for taking ecstasy (I Google'd it). Yes, if this guy was in charge, everyone would have the right to do a line of cocaine between playing skee ball and enjoying a slice of pizza. If that doesn't scream summertime family fun, I don't know what does (I'm being sarcastic). Forget taking a walk on the boardwalk on a nice Saturday night, or spending time with family and friends barbequing, or taking in a parade or something -- how about popping some ecstasy instead. That would be a terrific way to boost tourism here. What could possibly go wrong!

I told you I had to see if it was an April Fools joke. And I can only imagine what our corporate IT guys are thinking if they're looking at what I've been doing online this afternoon.
