Every year, the Worlds Ugliest Dog Competition is held in California--but it's not what you think.

Owners and dog lovers from around the world come to the competition, not to poke fun at the not-so-cute fur babies, but to show them that they deserve love just as much as any other dog!

Many of the dogs have been rescued from people who didn't want them based off their looks. So the competition is set to shine a light on the importance of loving people AND animals for who they are.

The 2018 competition will be held on June 22nd to name a new title holder as "World's Ugliest Dog". But until then, this is who currently holds the crown:
