A Vineland man is facing an attempted murder charge after police say he fled from the scene after shooting and wounding a man Friday afternoon in Atlantic City.

Just after 1:00 Friday afternoon, Atlantic City Police say they responded to the 2700 block of Pacific Avenue for a report of a man who had been shot. Arriving officers found a 22-year-old man who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to ARMC-City and then to Cooper Hospital in Camden with serious injuries.

Police say a citizen notified a detective that the suspect, 27-year-old Leon Green of Vineland, was walking on Iowa Avenue. Officers arrested Green without incident there; a loaded gun was found in Green’s waistband, according to police, who also say he was in possession of 47 grams of heroin and 5 grams of cocaine.

During their investigation, detectives learned that Green had also shot at a second male, but did not hit him.

Green is facing a list of charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS, and possession with intent to distribute CDS within 1,000 feet of a school zone. Green was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
